What Pawtreon is

Pawtreon is a free, independent social platform for animal rescue in Bulgaria. It gives shelters, volunteers, and rescuers one place to share urgent stories, find fosters, coordinate transport, and raise money for the animals in their care — without fighting the algorithm of a general-purpose social network.

It works everywhere in Bulgaria, not just in Sofia, and it is built to feel like Instagram for rescuers: a home feed, a map, an explore grid, urgent cases near you, and a direct way to support the people on the ground.

Why it exists

Most animal rescue in Bulgaria happens outside institutions. Volunteers pay vet bills out of pocket, coordinate transport over Viber, and post urgent cases to Facebook where the timeline buries them within hours. There is no free, purpose-built place for them to reach donors and organize help.

Pawtreon exists to be that place. Free to use. No ads. No algorithmic downranking of posts that did not pay for reach.

Independent by design

Pawtreon is not a company and not a charity. There is no board, no investors, no advertising contracts, and no paid staff. It is an independent project that runs on a small budget.

That is what lets Pawtreon stay neutral. It does not take a cut of any donation, it does not sell user data, and it does not promote one rescue over another for money.

How case donations work

When you donate to a rescue case on Pawtreon, the money goes directly to the rescue through Stripe Connect. Every verified rescue has its own connected payout account, so Stripe moves the donation straight from your card to the rescue’s bank — Pawtreon never holds, processes, or touches the funds.

This is a deliberate design choice. The platform takes no fee. The rescue receives the full amount, minus only Stripe’s standard processing fee on the payment itself. For the full legal picture, see the Terms of Service.

Supporting Pawtreon itself

Using the platform is free. Hosting, the domain, development tools, and map services are not. If Pawtreon is useful to you and you want to help keep it online and growing, you can support it directly on Ko-fi.

Donations to Pawtreon go toward infrastructure and development only. They are completely separate from donations to rescue cases and they never flow to any specific rescue.
